Mission Statement

The English Language Development department aims for all of our students to reach high-quality intellectual accomplishment that enables them to construct new knowledge, express their own ideas, and apply these ideas to their own world and their lives beyond school.

2021-22 Academic Learning Plan

The academic Learning Plan is the tool used to progress monitor all EL students in each school. This should be completed upon 60 days of school enrollment for all EL students. This plan provides the academic pathway and supports needed for an EL student to be successful in their ELD program.

2021-22 RFEP Monitoring Form

After students have exited an EL program, LEAs must monitor the academic progress of former EL students for at least four years to ensure that: The students have not been prematurely exited; Any academic deficit they incurred as a result of participation in the EL program have been remedied; and The students are meaningfully participating in the standard instructional program comparable to their never-EL peers.

Opt Out/Opt Into ELD Services

Parents have the right to opt their children out of EL programs or particular EL services. This decision must be voluntary and based on a full understanding of the EL child's rights, the range of services available to the child, and the benefits of such services to the child. This letter must be signed to authorize this option.

2021-22 OFY/OFL Reclassification Documents/Training Materials

"Reclassification procedures shall utilize multiple criteria in determining whether to reclassify a pupil as proficient in English, including, but not limited to, all of the following: Assessment of language proficiency using an objective assessment instrument, including, but not limited to, the English language development test that is developed or acquired pursuant to Section 60810. Teacher evaluation, including, but not limited to, a review of the pupil's curriculum mastery. Parental opinion and consultation. Comparison of the performance of the pupil in basic skills against an empirically established range of performance in basic skills based upon the performance of English proficient pupils of the same age, that demonstrates whether the pupil is sufficiently proficient in English to participate effectively in a curriculum designed for pupils of the same age whose native language is English."
